Saturday August 22nd saw a battle for 1st place in the TRU Men's B division. It seemed fitting that the two teams who dominated the division all season, would square off for the final regular season game--winner take all.

Heading into the contest both teams held the same 9-2 record. A review of regular season match-ups between the two clubs may have given a slight edge to the Orillia squad as they had beaten Cobourg 2 out of the 3 previous contests. However, two matches were decided by 3 points or less. AND the Saxon 1st XV were undefeated at home this season.

The Saxon men proved to be too determined and their quest to win the division would not be denied. The Saxon pack dominated the Orillia scrum and the final score would be Saxons 40 Orillia 5.

Congratulations and praise must go out to coach McKelvie who accomplished his goal of winning the division title. If it were not for Mike's hard work and dedication to the men's program over these past years, this season would not have been such a huge success. Congratulations Mike! (Michelle can have you back now).

Congratulations of course go out to our men's senior players who worked hard all season to accomplish our goal and produced strong seasons for both the 1st and 2nd teams.

Saturday's contest was a re-match of the 1998 Division Final which saw the Saxon men defeat the Dingoes at Fletcher's to clinch the TRU Division IV Final.

A new set of laws are being introduced this season. The purpose of these laws is an attempt to speed up transitional play in the game. Pleases view the following link to review these law changes.

The Cobourg Saxons senior men's and women's practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm.

Registration & Dues

The TRU is advising its clubs that an UNREGISTERED player participating in any game or practice is not covered by their insurance. For this reason we need to have all players registered as quickly as possible. We will be organizing registration dates in the very near future. Please make it a priority to come out and fill out the paper work and pay your dues. We need to have the majority of our Sr. players registered by April 1st! This is just over one month away. As for dues, we have been forced to raise the 2008 dues slightly to $230 for a Sr. Player, $210 for Sr. Students and we have yet to determine the dues for junior players. Dues this year will include one pair of club socks. Please have your first installment (if not your full dues) submitted by April 1st.
